How long have you been practicing massage therapy?Since 2000—16 years.
What is your favorite modality to teach?
So hard to choose! Um….KAM (Kinesthetic Awareness through Movement)!
What would you tell someone who is considering massage therapy school?
That it can be challenging, but it is so worth it! Accept the challenge—open your mind to new information and new perspectives; open your heart to new people and the healing powers of touch. You won’t regret it!
What is one thing you wish you had known before you became a massage therapist?
The importance of establishing a framework of regular, routine self-care, so that it is simply a habit.
Name one person who has had an impact on your life and explain why:
Okay, that’s just way too hard to narrow down! I’ll take the easy way out and say my daughter, because she makes me want to be a better person.
What is your favorite thing about teaching at FLSM and why?
I love being able to bring other people into this profession that I love. Also, I get to wear fun, comfortable clothing.
Vacation…beach, woods, desert, or mountains?
Buffalo chicken wings with celery and blue cheese.
Let the beauty we love, be what we do.” -Rumi
Describe your most significant interaction with a client or student:
After teaching students to massage the diaphragm, one young woman—a chronic smoker—cried and said, “I haven’t been able to breathe this deeply in 15 years.”
