Save Your Thumbs: Utilizing Forearm Techniques for Posterior, Anterior, and Sidelying Bodywork - Ithaca

Save your thumbs and use the forearm instead! As massage therapists we commonly over use our wrists, fingers and thumbs which can result in muscular pain, fatigue or strain. The forearm is a lovely and functional alternative to a thumb or hand.  In this two day workshop you will learn strategies and techniques in using the forearm as your primary massage tool for posterior, anterior and sidelying bodywork.  We will also discuss the proper use of the wrist and soft knuckles as an appropriate and safe alternative to the thumb or fingers. There is a strong emphasis on proper body alignment, mechanics and arm positioning. Both Swedish and Myofacial techniques will be demonstrated and discussed.

Danielle Guillet approaches bodywork, yoga and teaching with a sense of reverence and curiosity. Her love of traditional healing arts coupled with an educational background in biology has offered her a deep respect for the innate healing ability of the body and mind.  Danielle earned a BA in Biology in 2000 and attended the Finger Lakes School of Massage in 2002. She has been specializing in prenatal massage since 2005. In 2008 Danielle joined the teaching staff at the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Mount Kisco, NY.

After her son was born, Danielle became passionate about healthy choices in childbirth for mothers, families, and babies.  She then trained and certified as an Infant Massage Instructor, Yoga Teacher and completed level 1 Little Flower yoga for children. In addition Danielle is a Lamaze trained Childbirth Educator and a DONA trained Birth Doula.

Danielle offers prenatal yoga classes, Infant Massage workshops, Childbirth Education classes and Birth Doula services in Westchester.
